The expression "fashion law" was created about fifteen years ago by the American lawyer Susan Scafidi aiming at the designation of legal and specific matter in the fashion world.

Intellectual property emerges as the foundation of the Fashion Law as it makes it possible to protect the creations of the fashion industry through institutes such as the brand, industrial design and even copyright.

And different from what it seems, Fashion Law does not constitute itself as an autonomous branch of Law. Therefore, there is no specific law to deal with fashion industry issues.
